About

People.Cultures.One capital.

Capital Cultures is a free two-day multicultural festival planned for September 2027 in Ottawa, Ontario, where each community runs its own pavilion and keeps what its counter takes. The exact dates and the site wait on permits from the City of Ottawa and the National Capital Commission.

Why this city.

Ottawa has strong single-community festivals and no multicultural festival at the scale of the city. It carries the diplomatic weight of a national capital and the everyday kitchens of an immigrant city at the same time, and it is officially bilingual.

130+Diplomatic missions accredited in CanadaGlobal Affairs Canada · resident diplomatic missions accredited in Canada, the great majority of them in Ottawa.

The rules it keeps.

  1. The counter belongs to the community

Pavilion fee $0, and every dollar over the counter stays with the pavilion.

  2. Communities, never states

Pavilions are named after communities of this city and run by their organisations. Missions support; they never operate.

  3. No political platform

The festival takes no position on conflicts between states, governments or political movements.

  4. A person answers

A person answers every application and every message within ten working days.

  5. Nobody is named before they agree

No community, mission, funder or sponsor is presented as a partner before it has agreed in writing.

The September weekend is set with the permits. The mailing list hears it the same day, before anybody else.
